What is COCAAR about?

This website is the online presence of a movement to:

advocate and acheive REAL change to all the legislation and the rules that govern the Family Court process in New Zealand;
to provide support and assistance to those who need to use the Family Justice process.

Who are we?

We are a group of like minded individuals who have had FIRST-Hand experience within the Family Court system either as Parents and other family members, Lawyers, Staff, Support Professionals (e.g. Psychologists, Therapists). We are a NOT-FOR-PROFIT organisation.

Why?

We believe the Family Court and its supporting legislation is failing families in New Zealand. We want to advocate for and see radical change to the processes, the legislation, the rules that govern the Family Court. We also are advocating changes to the support models that are supposedly there to help families in times of conflict and distress. We believe the current system is MORE dysfunctional than the families it should be helping.

Recognising that the Family Justice process can be expensive and intimidating we hope to help individuals get through the system with the least cost and distress.

COCAAR is supporting a parent to take a case to the Human Rights Tribunal seeking to overturn the ruling of the Privacy Commission which has prevented that parent from having full access to their underage childs medical records.
